Tips For Avoiding Holiday Depression Triggers

While the holidays can be a magical time for one person, it can also trigger feelings of depression for others. There is no single and most definite cause of depression, you can develop clinical depression from various reasons and have different triggers for each. A person can be afflicted by one or more triggers and the result is always the same – depression. Here are our tips for trying to avoid depression triggers that can easily come up during the holidays.

Keep it Simple - Don’t overcommit during the holidays. The holidays usually bring more commitments on the calendar. Choose carefully, and don’t feel like you are required to say yes to everything.

Exercise and Keep a Healthy Diet - It is an incredibly hard thing to keep in a routine during the holidays. But keep in your normal exercise routine, and continue to eat a healthy diet. Of course the holidays should include a treat, but keep it as a treat and not be excessive.

Strong support group - This goes for everyday life, but it is especially important during a time where triggers can happen. Have people who you can trust and talk to. People that are looking out for your mental health as you navigate the holidays.
